GENERAL INFORMATION

This document is intended to serve as a guide for cataloging individual manuscript and typescript materials in the Mandeville Special Collections Library.  MSCL Quick Cataloging Guides are merely outline very general practice.  For more detailed information please refer (as needed) to MARC Standards, OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, and the cataloging standards appropriate for the materials being cataloged (identified below).

INDIVIDUAL MANUSCRIPT MATERIALS

Personal letters, manuscript books, typescripts, organization documents and other non-published, frequently single-instance textual materials maintained in the Mandeville Special Collections Library are processed, cataloged and housed differently from larger manuscript collections.  Such materials are cataloged according to AACR2 Chap. 4, rather than PPM or DACS.  Materials are given Library of Congress classification numbers and housed in the book collections of the Library.
