            SPECIAL COLLECTIONS CATALOGING PROCEDURE

                       HISPANIC COLLECTION

Reviewed Nov 17, 1998 by Richard Lindemann

As books in "Hispanic" are cataloged, they move to the
general Rare Collection.
Eliminate copy-specific data from the OCLC record and add
appropriate data to the INNOPAC record that describes our copy as
outlined below.

050/ Accept LC type call numbers as found in 050s or 090s, but
090 consult the INNOPAC shelflist to insure appropriate
cuttering. If it is necessary to change the call number,
retain the 050 in the record and enter UCSD's number in the
     090 field.

245 Confirm, correct or add the appropriate second indicator for
     non-filing characters.

510 Do not create bibliographical citations routinely, but if it
becomes necessary to perform bibliographical research in
order to identify with certainly the item in hand, cite the
results of your search. The following sources may
     especially helpful:

British Museum. SHORT-TITLE CATALOG OF BOOKS PRINTED IN
SPAIN... [Ref Z2682.B87 Hisp] Cite: BM STC Spanish, pre-
     1601, p. .

590 Most "Hispanic" books come from one of two collectors--
always add provenance notes for Americo Castro and Miguel
     Romero Martinez.
[the 790 form for these is:
               Castro, Americo, |d 1885-1972, |eformer owner.
               Romero Martinez, Miquel, |eformer owner.]

7xx Trace printers/publishers and place of publication for all
European imprints predating 1601 and for the American
     imprints predating 1860.

                                                     II.I.4 cont.

755 Trace noteworthy bindings and other artifactual
characteristics as required (from the list of exhaustive
features) or as indicated by the selector. Do not accept
precedent of headings found in Pac as authority to apply
those headings to the piece in hand.

949 Code each record cpx, etc.
