SPECIAL COLLECTIONS CATALOGING PROCEDURE
HIGH ALTITUDE MEDICINE AND PHYSIOLOGY [HAMP] COLLECTION
Reviewed Nov 17, 1998 by Richard Lindemann
GENERAL PRINCIPLES:
CATALOGING:
041 Confirm or add as needed.
050/090 Accept LC-type call numbers as found in 050s or 090s, but consult the PAC shelflist to insure appropriate cuttering. If it is necessary to change the call number, retain the 050 in the record and add UCSD's number in the 090 field. If an 090 is changed, delete the previous 090 so that only one 090 appears in the record.
240 Apply as required by AACR2rev., especially for translations; be sure to establish corresponding name/author authority records when needed.
245 Confirm, correct or add the appropriate indicators, especially for non-filing characters.
246 Apply added headings for variant titles liberally, especially for variant titles found on covers, spines and slip case labels, indicating their source when appropriate; e.g.:
246 1_ |iSpine title:|aWheezing in the willows
260 Follow AACR2rev., but ignore printers (|e and |f) unless no publisher is present; in the absence of a publisher, assign the printer as the publisher of the piece (|a and |b).
300 Confirm or correct pagination or volume count found in OCLC copy, and always include plate numbering in the description (|a).
590 Add provenance notes only when the streamer indicates that you should do so. Follow the style:
590 UCSD's copy provenance: Joe
Blow.
or,
590 UCSD's copy has bookplate
of Josephina Blow.
6xx Accept as found both MESH (second indicator 2) and LCSH
(second indicator 0) access points. Assign additional LCSH headings
as needed, but do not add MESH headings.
655/755 Follow the department's policy in applying terms from ACRL genre and book features thesauri; do not accept precedent of terms found in PAC as authority to apply those terms exhaustively.
7xx Always include the following added entry:
793 0_ High Altitude Medicine and Physiology Collection.
Make added entries for all entities named on the title page who are responsible for the intellectual content of the piece, including translators and illustrators. Select and apply relator terms following departmental procedures.
