Instructions for Processing Art and Architecture Library Materials

The Art and Architecture Library (AAL) will be moving at the end of April into
the West wing 1st floor space that was formerly the location of LPO, Business
Services, and Cataloging and Acquisitions. We are starting to receive many new
monographs designated for this collection, though it is sometimes hard to tell.
Leslie Abrams and the Acquisitions Dept. have designed and ordered new
lavender location streamers which will indicate the exact location and code for
each book. These streamers will help alert catalogers to the new
locations, but until they arrive, here's how to recognize AAL books:

AAL books will have pink CUL location streamers.

The location streamer may have "AAL" or "AARC" (the fund used to pay for the
book) pencilled at the top.

Generally, either Leslie Abrams' (la) or Susan Jurist's (csj) initials are on
either the location streamer or in the order record, as selector.

All "N" class books will be shelved in AAL.

Any books in other classification areas that are selected by either Leslie or
Susan should be located in AAL, even if there is no other indication that the
book belongs to AAL.

Leslie and Susan have indicated special locations such as "oversize" or "Ref",
etc., at the top of the pink CUL streamer. AAL has a different set of sizes
for oversize designation--see the latest oversize procedures issued by George
Janczyn on March 4th. AAL books without special locations should be cataloged
for AAL stacks.

New AAL location codes are on the first page of the latest item record location
table, issued January 25th. (A revised list will be issued shortly, but the
AAL locations on the old location table are all OK to use for now.) Do not
produce cards for any AAL location. Consult Leslie or your Section Head if you
have questions.
