GUIDELINES FOR SETTING UP 793 $a FOR ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
Prepared by: Adolfo Tarango, Nov. 21, 2005
Revised and updated: Dec. 5, 2005

(NOTE: This applies to both paid and open access titles)

1. If there are eight or more titles that are grouped under a common domain, create a distinct 856 $z [package name] and 793 title hook for the grouping, and send the name to Adolfo for approval. As a general rule, 793s should be suffixed with "online journals" and/or "online monographs." You can start using the 793 once it has been added to the e-resources tracking pages (contact Margaret for UCSD resources and Renee for CDL resources). For paid resources, the distinct title hook will be used in the $a; for open access resources it would be used in the $p.

793 0_ JSTOR online journals.

793 0_ Open access resource; selected by the UC Libraries. $p BioMed Central online journals.

793 0_ AccessMedicine online monographs.

2. If there are seven or fewer titles in a package (i.e., total number extant, not the number that we have cataloged or paid for) and there is no apparent need to set up a distinct 793 title hook:

for paid titles (not applicable to monographs), use:

793 0_ Miscellaneous <UC or UCSD> subscription online journals.

for open access titles, use:

793 0_ Open access resource; selected by the <UC or UCSD> Libraries.

3. If there are seven or fewer titles and there is a need to set up a distinct 793 hook, discuss with Adolfo.
