Metadata Guidelines

The Metadata Analysis and Specification Unit (MASU) within the UCSD Libraries has developed metadata guidelines with the goal of promoting interoperability of digital assets and their effective preservation, management, and accessibility.

The basic purposes of the guidelines are to:
  1. Indicate baseline metadata requirements
  2. Insure basic interoperability across the Libraries’ digital assets
  3. Coordinate and consolidate existing metadata policies and practices being implemented in the Libraries
  4. Represent and communicate, as a coherent whole, the metadata practices of the UCSD Digital Library Program
  5. Promote reuse of metadata work for future needs

The scope of the guidelines will pertain only to digital assets produced by the UCSD Libraries and preserved in the Digital Asset Management System (DAMS)
