Description: Serials records in MELVYL Periodicals Database for which there are no records in Innopac or records in the wrong (CAT vs. PE) Database can be deleted by using a special procedure called the "899" procedure. The information in the 899 field matches the MELVYL maintenance key (field 901) in the MELVYL Periodicals record. There can be multiple 899 fields in one bibliographic record, but serials and other formats cannot be included on the same record. These records are coded for deletion (R CTRL CD= d) and included in the weekly file sent to CDL. The R CTRL CD code causes the records to be suppressed from view in Roger. Each bibliographic record must have at least one checkin record.
Procedure:
1. Key in a bibliographic record which contains at least the following data elements:
BRANCH = (any valid code)
MAT
TYPE = s
CAT DATE = Today’s date
R CTRL CD = d
245 field = (any
title)
440 field = 899 deletes
899 field = 901 of the MELVYL Periodicals record
Examples:
899
I|b12345678|cSDB
899 O|b73989922|cCUSL
899 C|b68123456|cXUS1
Note: There can be multiple 899 fields in one bib record
2. Checkin record
Attach a checkin record with the following fields correctly coded:
LOC = (any valid code)
LIB HAS =
(initials and date of person initiating the 899)
IDENTITY = Deleting from MELVYL
