TECHPRO CHINESE: APPENDIX A: ANTICIPATED WORKFLOW

  1. UCSD: Shi Deng selects titles to be sent to TechPro, and adds note in online item record regarding shipping date. Items will be cataloged for various stacks locations as indicated. Shi Deng will indicate shelving locations on the brief record sent to TechPro. The default location is ik (IR/PS Stacks); other locations may include ckea (SSH EastAsia Stacks), ir (IR/PS Reference), crea (SSH EastAsia Reference), etc.

  2. TechPro: Catalog the materials.
     
    Searching OCLC: Use OCLC TechPro's "Definition of match for monographs," to determine when to input a new OCLC record.
    Cataloging: Use the Guidelines for Creating New OCLC Records: Books (included in Appendix B, Cataloging Specifications) to create OCLC bibliographic record.
    Verification: Use instructions included in Appendix B, Cataloging specifications, to verify headings and call numbers.
    Exporting: When exporting records from OCLC to INNOPAC, use UCSD's constant data records to create 949 fields which contain instructions to INNOPAC regarding creating the bib and item records. Instructions for using the constant data records are included in Appendix B.
    Printout: Print out paper copy of bibliographic record and keep it with the book (will be annotated following instructions in Appendix B) and sent to UCSD with shipment.

  3. TechPro: Authority processing:

      Write (in pencil) romanized author and title on the left top of the title page
      Checking all names, series, uniform titles and subjects in the Online Authority Files, make notes following instructions in Appendix B on printout of bibliographic record.
      Note variant forms of names and series on printout of bibliographic record; UCSD will input authority records upon receipt of shipment

  4. TechPro: Ship materials to Shi Deng, Geisel Library

  5. TechPro: The actual billing for services, materials, and shipping and handling fees will be included in the monthly OCLC statement which is sent to Cathy Cabulio, Dept. of Business & Finance (0175Z)

  6. UCSD: Upon receipt of cataloged materials from TechPro, Shi Deng will do the following:

    --Review printouts from books and will assign authority record keying.
    --Send books to DBM EV shelf for labeling.
