Authors: Hanley Cocks, Caroline Kidman, Donal O'Sullivan, Deann Trebbe
Date: August 28, 2007
Updated: September 11, 2007
Approved by: Cataloging Committee on September 11, 2007

These guidelines are for use by all catalogers except Special Collections and SCP catalogers.

For composite monograph cataloging, see: COMPOSITE RECORD CATALOGING (CATALOGING REMOTE ACCESS ELECTRONIC MONOGRAPHS USING THE PRINT RECORD VERSION)

These guidelines apply to copy cataloging, upgrading, and original cataloging.

NOTE : All fields are accepted as is unless indicated below . CJK catalogers will add script fields as required. For Geisel Library Metadata Services Dept. catalogers, these standards are used for "I" and "K" encoding level records. "K" level inputs do not require subject headings or classification numbers.

For fields listed below, apply guidelines as stated. In most cases, do not modernize description to reflect current rules and rule interpretations, but follow current rules when adding descriptive information or access points.

Use the Books workform for remote access textual monographic resources. If cataloging any other type of resource, see the editing guidelines for that workform on how to code the fixed fields. The fixed fields below are for the books workform only.
