UC Policy for Identification of Shared Purchase Items in the Melvyl Catalog

(The following summarizes the approved UC policy and should be incorporated 
into UCSD's procedures. -- B. Tillett, 3/8/91)

In order to provide a "hook" for selecting records from MELVYL for materials 
acquired through shared purchase programs, we will consistently provide a 
590 note that begins "Shared purchase." This note will appear in the call 
number displays on MELVYL.

	590     Shared purchase

Examples:

	590     Shared purchase.  Acquired through the UC Shared
                Collections and Access Program.

	590     Shared purchase.  Acquired through UC/Stanford Shared
                Acquisitions.  Material listed herin is located at
                UCSB Arts Library.

MELVYL would display these notes following the call number, for example:
