NOTE: All materials cataloged for Mandeville Library of Special Collections are coded item type 34. All materials cataloged for the Music Library recordings location are coded 18.
 
 
Code  Meaning  Usage 
Paper books   
Paper periodicals  Magazines and journals issued 4 or more times a year. In case of doubt, use item type code 4. Biomed and MCL do not use.
Individual serial analytics  SIO, Biomed, and MCL only; all other locations use item type code 0.
Paper serials  Serials issued 3 times or less a year and analyzed serials. Use item type code 0 for individual analytics. Biomed and MCL do not use.
Classified serials  Biomed and MCL only
W1/ZW1 serials (copy 1)  Biomed and MCL only
W1/ZW1 serials (copy 2)  Biomed and MCL only
10  Paper newspapers   
11  Microfilm - newspapers   
12  Microfilm - not newspapers  Takes precedence over all other item type codes
13  Microfiche  Takes precedence over all other item type codes
14  Microprint and microcards  Takes precedence over all other item type codes
15  Maps   
16  Paper dissertations  SIO only for SIO theses and dissertations; all other locations use item type code 0 unless item is a music score, in which case use item type code 17
17  Music scores   
18  Music Library recordings  Music Library use only; takes precedence over all item type codes
20  Audio cassettes  IRPS, SIO, Biomed, and MCL only
