NOTE: All fields are accepted as is unless indicated below.

Generally, do not modernize description to reflect current rules and rule interpretations. Statements to "correct" a field typically refer to the intellectual content of the field, not the form the information takes. Follow current rules when adding descriptive information.

240 Uniform title Correct if present, add if appropriate. Delete $h. Delete if uniform title matches $a of 245.

If more publishers are listed than required by rules, but are taken from item, leave. DATES ($c): Correct if present, add if not. Check that corresponding fixed field is correct.
300 Physical description Do not modernize or convert to match LC or rules. EXTENT OF ITEM ($a): Correct specific material designation (sound tape reel ; etc.). OTHER PHYSICAL DETAILS ($b): correct if present add if not. Add if missing. ACCOMPANYING MATERIAL ($e): Add or edit for significant accompanying computer disks, computer optical discs, sound recordings, etc. Edit to the extent that you would for $a and $b. For SACDs and audio Surround Sound formats, record physical characteristics related to the part of the item that can be played on conventional (non-SACD or non-Sourround) equipment. Record specifics on SACD or Surround capabilities in field 538.
4XX Series statement Reminder: 400, 410, and 411 are not valid under AACR2R. Change to 490 1 and 8XX. 
Add or correct as necessary but don't change 490 1 for style. 440s: If the authority file form of the title match the book and copy but the volume designation does not, edit the form of volume designation to match the authority file form.
490 Series statement Correct if present, add if not. Do not use 490 0: UCSD policy is to trace all series. For upgrades, follow LCAF treatment if available, then reformat and edit for UCSD policy.
5XX Notes Unless specified below, accept order and wording as on record, unless inaccurate or misleading; For AACR 2 records, do not add source for quoted notes if missing on record; delete other libraries' copy-specific notes. Add notes as necessary to justify added entries. Don't modernize language notes to 546s, but use correct tag if adding. Don't add "Compact disc" note if missing.
505 Formatted contents note

When present, accept as on record and correct typos locally. When absent, add for up to 15 contents items; add for unlimited number of items if instructed by bibliographer.

Do not lock and replace master OCLC record for database enrichment unless item has serious other problems or if you need to add contents for multi-volume sets based on volumes in hand. For open sets, accept existing contents and add additional contents based only on volumes in hand. When adding additional contents, follow existing subfield coding.

Don't delete subfielding in formatted contents notes when exported to Innopac.

508 Creation/Production Credits Note Correct content if present.
511 Participant/Performer note

When present, accept as on record and correct typos. When absent, add for up to 15 performers; add for unlimited number of performers if instructed by bibliographer.

518 Date/Time and Place of an Event Note Correct content or add if applicable
530 Additional physical form available note Add if additional electronic formats are accessible at UCSD. Also add 856 field if appropriate.
538 System details note

When information is readily available, add if missing for accompanying computer files or to record requirements for computer component of piece in hand. Also use to record details relating to items that are SACDs or DVD Audio.

If item is SACD but lacks note, add the following wording: Hybrid Stereo/Super Audio CD (SACD): stereo layer playable on standard CD player; SACD-encoded layer requires SACD equipment.

If item is DVD-Audio but lacks note, add the following wording: DVD-Audio, requires DVD equipment for playback.

If item is HDCD but lacks note, add the following wording: HDCD encoded compact disc; plays on standard CD players but requires HDCD-compatible player for enhanced sound.

All headings with 2nd indicator 0 or 4: correct if present, add if appropriate; ignore all others. Accept order of 6XX as on record. Ignore absence or presence of final punctuation. Delete $4; Delete $e (except for Special Collections, who will delete or modify them as needed).

If OCLC record lacks subject headings, enrich record to provide them. Also enrich record if existing heading(s) is/are grossly incorrect and would benefit from additional terms. (Under terms of database enrichment, existing headings may not be changed.)

655 Index term--Genre/Form Delete 655s on non-LC copy.
700-730 Added entry

Correct if present, add if appropriate. Delete $e (except for Special Collections); correct or add $4 when needed (Music Library only); and delete $u. Accept order of entries on copy. Ignore absence or presence of final period.

For collections, make added entries for every post-1950 work in the classical tradition. Delete excessive added entries for pre-1950 music if the cataloging institution made more than 5 and the verification work would be excessive.

Make additional added entries for persons on Current and Selected Former UCSD Music Department Faculty list if not already on bib record, even if they are performing in an ensemble already named. However, if the larger ensemble is a UCSD group such as Sonor, do not give the personal names unless the person has a prominent solo or conducting role.

740 Added entry, title traced differently. Correct form if present. Accept order on record. Do not move titles to 246s if they properly belong there under current tagging practices. Do not add variant titles if already in 700 $t. If uncontrolled analytic title(s) missing, add in 740 x2. If any other types of title(s) missing, add in 246. 
752 Hierarchical place name access Delete.
755 Added entry, physical characteristics Delete.
776 For $c and $w only: Correct if present, add if needed. Delete other subfields. $c and $w only: correct if present, add if needed. Accept other subfields as given.
