"Dept." in Authority Records

At the request of ISC and with the approval of Cataloging Committee, cross references have been added to all authority records that have "Dept." in the authorized form. This cross reference is the same as the authorized form except it has "Dept." spelled out as "Department." ISC asked if we could do this since most patrons aren't aware that the rules call for us to make this abbreviation.  With the MilCat Release 2005 Beta, this was done with a global update. Below is an example of what one looks like:

110 1   California.|bDept. of Mental Health
410 1 9 California.|bDepartment of Mental Health|5CUS

Please do not delete these when you come across them. It is not necessary for you to make this reference if you encounter/download an authority record without it. DBM will do quarterly sweeps of the database to add these references to authority records that lack them.
