Metadata Services Department Safety and Security
Building Evacuation
In the event of an evacuation, Metadata Services Department employees should exit the library building through the front doors.
Metadata Services Department employees should report to one of two designated evacuation locations. All employees must check in with their supervisor or the Department Head at the designated evacuation location.
- For "non-disaster" events, such as fire alarms, meet on the west side of Library Walk, across from the Price Center.
- For catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, the new disaster meeting location for Geisel Library is the grassy area just west of the concrete pedestals on Library Walk, extending between Class of 1973 and Class of 1978. This replaces the previous disaster meeting location north of the Faculty Club. The location was changed in consultation with campus emergency services because of concerns about the safety and accessibility of the Faculty Club site in an actual disaster.
Safety and security resources
Equipment
- Fire extinguisher locations:
- on the main aisle, between the supply cabinets and the systems alert board
- on the wall outside the Technical Services Conference Room
- just inside the door to Library Administration
- The fire alarm is located in the hall near the emergency exit door. In the event of a small fire, pull the alarm, and, if you have been trained to use fire extinguishers, you may attempt to put out the fire. Protect your own safety and the safety of others first.
- Emergency manuals are located in each unit, along with a flashlight.
- First aid supplies are contained in the departmental emergency pack, as well as in first aid kits stored in supply Cabinet B.
