Function: Management and supervision of the [name of the Unit]

 

  1. Provides vision and leadership for the [name of the Unit].
  2. Sets direction for unit activities, plans, priorities, and workflows.
  3. Establishes, revises, and implements policies and procedures.
  4. Facilitates communication and cooperation in the unit and the department.
  5. Serves as resource person and advocate for topics relating to or affecting the unit, including resolving problems affecting the unit.
  6. Serves on Metadata Services Dept. Unit Heads Group.
  7. Monitors, analyzes, evaluates, and communicates staffing, space, equipment, and fiscal needs of the unit. Manages the General Assistance budget for the unit.
  8. Supervises and directs the activities of staff [and student employees]. Writes and updates unit job descriptions and makes recommendations on staff classification.
  9. Screens applications, interviews candidates, and makes selection decisions.
  10. Develops and sets performance standards with staff [and student employees]. Provides guidance on performance standards and university policies and procedures for the unit.
  11. Independently conducts performance appraisals, including communication with subordinates.
  12. Provides for training and revision, and recommends professional development opportunities to supervisees.
  13. Makes recommendations for employee incentive awards, salary increases, and merit awards.
  14. Determines disciplinary action for subordinates with authority to apply such, and/or submits/recommends same to higher level management.
