Function: Management and supervision of the [name of the Unit]
- Provides vision and leadership for the [name of the Unit].
- Sets direction for unit activities, plans, priorities, and workflows.
- Establishes, revises, and implements policies and procedures.
- Facilitates communication and cooperation in the unit and the department.
- Serves as resource person and advocate for topics relating to or affecting the unit, including resolving problems affecting the unit.
- Serves on Metadata Services Dept. Unit Heads Group.
- Monitors, analyzes, evaluates, and communicates staffing, space, equipment, and fiscal needs of the unit. Manages the General Assistance budget for the unit.
- Supervises and directs the activities of staff [and student employees]. Writes and updates unit job descriptions and makes recommendations on staff classification.
- Screens applications, interviews candidates, and makes selection decisions.
- Develops and sets performance standards with staff [and student employees]. Provides guidance on performance standards and university policies and procedures for the unit.
- Independently conducts performance appraisals, including communication with subordinates.
- Provides for training and revision, and recommends professional development opportunities to supervisees.
- Makes recommendations for employee incentive awards, salary increases, and merit awards.
- Determines disciplinary action for subordinates with authority to apply such, and/or submits/recommends same to higher level management.
