Automation skills and knowledge requirements in the Catalog Department

Prepared by: George J. Janczyn with assistance from Kate Garvey-Clasby and Arnold Josafat.
Approved September 18, 2000 by Section Heads Group.

This form will produce a customized list of skills that can be incorporated into Catalog Department job descriptions.

Instructions: Place a check mark in boxes as appropriate. When done, click the button at the bottom and the information will be formatted in HTML. You can then save the HTML file and incorporate it into your job description document using Dreamweaver or other HTML editor.

Note: Items that apply to everyone are selected by default. If a topic has more than one skill item, you must select the first item in addition to any of the others that might apply, in order for the heading for that topic to be printed. The first skill item listed will always be the base level knowledge for that topic)

Changes and notes:

  1. Qualcomm Eudora end-user skills are not enumerated because the program is not a listed requirement for anyone's job--although support for people who choose to use the program IS expected so support skills for it are listed.
  2. AIM (AOL instant messenger) is not listed because it hasn't been identified as a job requirement (yet?).
  3. You can copy/paste text from multiple rows in one column (without having to get the Xs in the other columns) by opening the file in Dreamweaver. In Dreamweaver, select the rows in the column you want, then in the Edit menu, choose "Copy Text Only." In your word-processed document, you can then paste that text.
  4. Rule of thumb: when pasting skills paragraphs into the job description, it is okay to delete items that don't apply to that position. However, do not ADD items to the job description if something not in the list below needs to be added. In such cases, new text must be proposed to [section heads or ccg?].
  5. OCLC CORC will not be listed as a requirement at this time per Linda B.
