UCSD Practice for Edition vs Printing

When the date of publication on the piece does not match the publication date on existing copy, consult LCRI 2.2 and OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards, Section 4 for determining when to input a new record.  In addition, use the following UCSD guidelines:

  • If book date is earlier than date on matching copy, create a new record with book date of publication.
  • If book date is later than matching copy, use copy as is and do not change date on copy.
  • For science materials, always create a new record when book date and copy date don’t match (assume data may be different which makes the editions different)
